From the first months of his life, your child begins to develop
his
ability to communicate through his hearing. Here are some clues to follow the
development of your child's communication:

0 to 3 months
Startles at loud and sudden noises.
Calms down when listening to a familiar voice.
3 to 6 months
Makes noises with his mouth. Turn your head, look with your
eyes when he hears known voices.
Likes toys that produce sounds (e.g. rattle).
6 to 12 months
Reacts to his name.
Turn your head and look in the direction of the sounds he
hears. It begins to babble (e.g. papa, mamma).
Includes certain words such as "no" or
"bye-bye".
12 to 18 months
Say more and more words.
He understands the simple instructions of his parents.
Imitate animal noises.
18 to 24 months
Reacts when called from another room.
Uses approximately 20 words at 18 months and 100 words at 24
months.
Start making short sentences of 2 or 3 words.
Includes instructions such as "go find (...)" and
"show me (...)".

Help your child develop
You are a role model for your child. Talk to him as often as
possible. Use the right words. Play with words and sounds, rhyming, and
imitating animal sounds. Name the objects around you
